SANDRA GLIST WAKEMAN
Mystic - Sandra Glist Wakeman died Nov. 11, 2016, at Yale New Haven Hospital of lung cancer. She was born in Detroit, Mich. on March 29, 1944, to Selma Terry Glist and Abraham Alexander Glist.
Sandy, as she's known by her friends, was full of life and ready for adventure. After receiving her bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State University she lived in Detroit, Chicago, and then San Francisco, where she met her husband of 32 years, Stephen Wakeman. Together they moved to New York City and later to Mystic shortly after the birth of their son, Roger.
Sandy was a devoted mother and member of the community. She was involved in the Fresh Air Fund, and volunteered for many years at the Mystic and Noank Library. During that time, Sandy also worked part time at the GAP in Waterford for nearly 20 years. She loved dance, art, reading and travel.
Since her diagnosis in early 2014, she lived a very active and rewarding life thanks to her determined spirit and the extraordinary expertise and execution of the medical community at Yale.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Wakeman of Mystic; son, Roger Wakeman of Chicago; sister, Phyllis Atler of Boca Raton Fla.; brother, Ralph Glist of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and in-laws, a nephew, numerous nieces, cousins, and friends all over the world.
A reception of remembrance will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Mystic and Noank Library, 40 Library Street, Mystic.
The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic is assisting the family.
